What's up now?

Closed in August to freshen our face

It's been a busy couple of years running the B&B but all that love and hosting amazing guests mean we needed some new paint and varnish. The rooms are all getting a touch up, in the poolside suite we are removing the tile and putting in the same acid wash floors as is in our other suites.
The team has done and  excellent job getting things done quickly even though we have had a little rain over the last couple of weeks. I can't wait to unveil the new fresh look in our updated photos.
I hope you will come see what's new. By December the house will also be for rent. It includes 2 bedrooms, a sitting area, kitchenette and a dining nook. You can enjoy an authentic wood home with ocean breezes washing over you in the evenings. Keep an eye out for the new changes.

Breakfast is my favorite

For those who know me well it's probably no surprise that baking is one of my very favorite things. Since I've always liked meeting new people, turning someone onto an excellent restaurant or hosting a social event I thought a B&B host would be the ultimate job. I have realized that the quiet time in the morning while I create a different breakfast each day is even better. It's so fun to come up with new recipes for the muffins, experiment with jams made from local fruit and be sure everything looks just so. I love to make the trays look pretty with fresh flowers or garnish. Even on days I don't bake I get to ride past the beach and decide what scrumptious pastry will be on the menu. It's truly the best part of my day. I hope that guests feel welcomed and enjoy the care put into the trays I bring to the room each morning because for me it's perfect.

So ready to move into the Poolside suite

I love the new suite so much I want to move in there and stay. Forget renting it to guests. This room was so fun to design. I was able to pull in a lot of elements that make it cozy, beautiful and functional because I had a better grasp of the materials at hand. The headboard is back lit for a warm romantic feel and includes a reading light and duel power outlets for phones and tablets. All light fixtures are custom made with using steel, copper and glass. The bathroom sink sits on a huge chunk of natural wood right next to the completely open walk in shower. This rooms is poolside and when you step onto the its patio you are at the pool. Because you're on the on the ground floor it stays cool all day but still has plenty of light with all the windows and the double door entrance. Come try it out and let me know if you think it's as great as I do.

Finally I could post the HGTV episode on YouTube

It's amazing how long the process took from start to finish. I contacted HGTV about a year ago. It aired on Thanksgiving and today I just got a copy of the TV show to post. I've uploaded it to YouTube and it's pretty fun to watch. I managed to get a copy to all the people who helped me film or allowed us to use their business as promised. Im grateful to everyone who helped pull it off.  Now it's just a memory.

I had no idea when I sent that first email what a crazy ride it would become. It took loads of emails, video calls, filmed auditions, and a ton of paperwork to pull it off. 5 days of filming, in 2 countries and dozens of locations to get 22 minutes of footage.

Everyone asks what it was like for me. It was equal measures of fun and stress. Trying to sound natural when you already said it take after take was a challenge. I have a whole new appreciation for actors doing it for a living. We had lots of laughs while filming and I would definately do it again given the chance.

If you want to know how I did it feel free to shoot me a note. I'm happy to share my process. Maybe you too could have your 22 minutes of fame. If you haven't seen it yet you can check out the show at:

Poolside Room - Handicapped Access

I wanted our guest with less mobility to have a great place to hang out so I designed a poolside room to make them feel right at home. It has some great features to accommodate wheel chair access. The bath room has a walk in shower designed with no interior walls. The breakfast table drops down from the wall to allow you to pull it down when needed. This room features all custom designs from lighting to curtain rods making it easier to use and enjoy. That being said I think everyone will LOVE this room. The design elements make it relaxing and filled with light. The sliding doors to the pool are a nice feature and allow you to be pool side all the time. It will be all ready and waiting for our guest by the holidays. Come and check it out.

In all the excitement I forgot I'm about to be on HGTV

I know it sounds crazy but it's true. This all began because a friend said, "You should be on House Hunters International." I didn't give it too much thought but once I was in Costa Rica with a little extra time I thought what the heck and I went for it. After the show airs on Thanksgiving I will give some more details on how I did it and why so check it out.
